FINANCING AND DISTRIBUTION OF EUROPEAN FILMS IN THE EU DIGITAL MARKET ROUNDTABLE

EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda, and EU Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, responsible for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, will chair a multi-stakeholder roundtable on the "Financing and distribution of European films in the EU digital market". Representatives of main European cinema organisations, well-known European film directors, CEOs of major European broadcasting, telecom and production companies and VOD platforms, will discuss how European policies can facilitate the development of innovative models of distribution which will reap the full benefits of the digital single market while safeguarding cultural diversity. The sustainability of existing funding models and current mainstream practices of release windows will also be examined during this meeting. The results of the discussion will feed into the preparation of the forthcoming Commission proposal for a Council recommendation on European film in the digital era.
